Do masks “flatten the curve”?

Mask Mandates

We all know and suffer from a case of mask mandates here in Montana… Do they work? Are they flattening the curve? Matt Margolis goes over the data comparing case counts and mask mandates. IF mask wearing was effective, you would see an impact when mask mandates are made. However, that’s not the case.

The Data

People have said that we don’t have any data. However, we have nine months of data here in the US and seven months since the initial lockdowns. Included are the graphs tracking case counts, lockdowns, mask mandates, fines imposed, etc.

Rational Ground

It’s Time to End the Mask Mandates

There’s no sound data that suggests the need to wear masks. Instead it points to the fact that masks do very little to prevent the inhalation of small particles. And as shown above, the actual implementation of mask mandates haven’t had an impact in “flattening the curve”.

A cloth mask or face covering does very little to prevent the emission or inhalation of small particles. As discussed in an earlier CIDRAP commentary and more recently by Morawska and Milton (2020) in an open letter to WHO signed by 239 scientists, inhalation of small infectious particles is not only biologically plausible, but the epidemiology supports it as an important mode of transmission for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

Also, some places without mask mandates have done better than those with the mandates. Here’s a great article by William Sullivan at American Thinker about the reasons to end the mask mandates. Even though it was back in August, most of the information still applies.

What are Others Doing to End Mask Mandates?

In Florida

In Florida, conservative lawyer and state House Rep. Anthony Sabatini cheered the defeat of Wolf’s draconian COVID-19 orders. “Some in the Judiciary are finally waking up to the fact that the government is not always right — and that the constitution is not suspended during an emergency,” he told me. Sabatini has filed 15 ongoing challenges to the Sunshine State’s lockdown measures. “We’re looking forward to winning.”

In Colorado

In Colorado, I joined a similar lawsuit with state House Rep. Pat Neville to challenge Gov. Jared Polis’ whopping 166 COVID-19 executive orders, as well as multiple public health orders issued by state and county health departments. As in Pennsylvania, our state Supreme Court declined to hear the case. So we filed in Denver District Court two weeks ago. Polis and other government officials are on notice: No more kings.

In Orange County California The Healthy American was suing the board of supervisors for Fraud. Because Fraud is a felony, there’s prison sentences behind it. The county overturned the mask mandate the next day.
